We are pleased to announce the following speakers and panels for the Wireless Health 2013 Conference:

 

Keynote: Deborah Estrin

Deborah Estrin is a Professor of Computer Science at the new Cornell Tech campus in New York City and a Professor of Public Health at Weill Cornell Medical College. She is co-founder of the non-profit startup, Open mHealth. She was previously on faculty at UCLA and Founding Director of the NSF Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS). Estrin is a pioneer in networked sensing, which uses mobile and wireless systems to collect and analyze real time data about the physical world and the people who occupy it. Estrin’s current focus is on mobile health , leveraging the programmability, proximity, and pervasiveness of mobile devices and the cloud for health management. She is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

 

 

Panel Discussion: Human Computer Interaction

Led by moderator Ben Shneiderman (U. Maryland), panelists Helena Mentis (UBMC), Monifa Vaughn-Cooke (U. Maryland, College Park), and Lena Mamykina (Columbia) will discuss the design and evaluation of HCI in the healthcare arena. Topics will include issues in automated sensing of movement disorders, patient-centric design for self-management technologies, and the use of mobile technologies to enable healthier lives.

 

 

Technical Session: Tech for Less

This series of oral presentations will focus on the reduction in healthcare costs and increased accessibility that can be achieved through implementation of wireless health systems, though improvements in analytics as well as development of better, lower cost monitoring systems. Speakers in this session include Roozbeh Ghaffari (MC10) and Thys Cronje (GeoMed) as well as an interdisciplinary team from UCLA.
