About ideSHi:
The Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi) was founded by Dr. Firdausi Qadri, PhD.
She is also the Director of Vaccine Sciences at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research,
Bangladesh. The mission of ideSHi is to strengthen scientific capacity and encourage innovations to make
Bangladesh a leader in the field of health regionally and multi-disciplinary research globally. ideSHi focuses on
the development of local scientists and scientific capacity, scientific research, public health initiatives, and
educational programs.
Internship description and Details:
ideSHi seeks a full-time project manager to support an exciting new project to improve infectious disease
detection and management using mobile technology in the community. Duties will include project development,
logistics, and human centered design research at the level of households and pharmacies. Under the
supervision of Dr. Firdausi Qadri, PhD (ideSHi) and Dr. Eric Nelson, MD PhD (Stanford University, USA), the
project manager will gain valuable experience working on a project critical to the organization’s ability to fulfill its
mission, as well as the chance to work with a committed, highly skilled international team.
• Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
• Interview: February, 2014
• Start date: March, 2014
• Length of Commitment: Minimum 10 month contract with an initial two-month evaluation period.
Tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Coordinating the activities of project sites (field, lab, office)
• Conducting human centered design research at the field site
• Coordinating the production and distribution of health messaging materials
• Working closely with mobile technology partner (Medic Mobile) to connect households with pharmacies
• Liaise with Ministry of Health and community groups as required
• Perform other administrative duties as required
Requirements:
• Masters in public health, development, or equivalent related degree or experience
• Previous experience in mHealth/ mobile technology, healthcare delivery, or social business development
• Excellent oral and written Bengali and English communication skills (Fluent in English)
• Ability to work well independently and manage multiple priorities
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and work ethic
• Keen interest in non-profit sector, mobile health, global health, or development
• International candidates: must currently have a valid work permit for Bangladesh
The salary and benefits for the position are competitive based on local NGO scales.
