Overview of Position
In early 2014, the mHealth Alliance is moving its base of operation from Washington, DC to South Africa.  This strategic decision by the Partnership Board and Executive leadership of the mHealth Alliance came from its success in catalyzing and mainstreaming mHealth at the global level and the growing portfolio of work and demand for capacity and policy development support at the country and regional level.  To support this move, the mHealth Alliance is seeking a dynamic Senior Manager to help facilitate the move and establish operations in South Africa and support on-going programs.  

The Senior Manager, mHealth Alliance will advance the goals and objectives of the mHealth Alliance under the leadership of the Executive Director.  The Senior Manager will be responsible for day-to-day internal management of the Alliance, with emphasis on managing mHealth Alliance internal operations, leading project teams and programmatic activities, and managing grants and proposal development processes.  

The mHealth Alliance champions the use of mobile technologies to improve health throughout the world. Working with diverse partners to integrate mHealth into multiple sectors, the Alliance serves as a convener for the mHealth community to overcome common challenges by sharing tools, knowledge, experience, and lessons learned. The mHealth Alliance advocates for more research and evaluation to advance the evidence base; seeks to build capacity among health and industry decision-makers, managers, and practitioners; promotes sustainable business models; supports systems integration by advocating for standardization and interoperability of mHealth platforms; and promotes policies that mitigate the risk for investment in mHealth and ensure its long-term viability.  The mHealth Alliance also hosts HUB (Health Unbound), a global online community for resource sharing and collaborative solution generation.

The mHealth Alliance seeks a highly motivated individual who wants to contribute his/her experience in health, mobile, or nonprofit field to be a key member of a highly motivated and enthusiastic team.  The Senior Manager will have the following areas of responsibility: General Management, Grants Management, and Relationship Management.

Working Relationships
The Senior Manager, mHealth Alliance reports to the Executive Director, mHealth Alliance and works in tandem with others as needed within the Alliance.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
General Management
Manage the day-to-day activities of mHealth Alliance; develop and manage scope, budgets, and deliverables of overall mHealth Alliance activities and coordinate progress with project teams and external stakeholders.
Support the establishment of a Board of Directors, including support and coordination around recruitment, governance documentation, and providing ongoing support for Board meetings.
Provide management support to specific projects, including managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables for the Information Communication Technologies for Saving One Million Lives (ICT4SOML) Initiative in Nigeria, the Innovation Working Group Catalytic Grants Program, and the mHealth Expert Learning Program (mHELP).
Support recruitment and hiring for mHealth Alliance staff and all strategic consultants, as needed.
Provide support for annual strategic and operational planning in consultation with the mHealth Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Director.
Lead management of mHealth Alliance budgets, including tracking, forecasting, and monitoring expenditures in coordination with accounting team.
Coordinate the facilitation of transferring and/or establishing technology and financial assets for the mHealth Alliance in South Africa.
Provide monitoring and evaluation support and tracking of relevant data for mHealth Alliance goals.

Grants Management
Provide financial administration and processing of mHealth Alliance contracts and grants; oversee the review and approval of grant and contractual agreements.
Coordinate with donors to meet reporting requirements and ensure alignment with proposals and work plans; manage the coordination of narrative and financial reporting for Alliance grants.
Support mHealth Alliance Executive Director in creating partnership development and new business development strategies for key mHealth Alliance targets.
In coordination with the mHealth Alliance team, develop grant proposals from inception to implementation including the development of a concept note, budget, reporting and financial tracking.

Relationship Management
Serve as a day-to-day contact with collaborators and partner organizations, including main contact with the UN Foundation and Praekelt Foundation operations staff.
Develop and manage strong relationships with external members of the mHealth community.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Master’s degree in international affairs, public policy, public health, or related degree, plus at least 5-7 years of relevant experience.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team atmosphere; pay close attention to follow-up and manage details and projects; capable of working with minimal supervision.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally while driving progress toward defined objectives and holding staff accountable.
Significant professional experience in low and middle-income countries.
Self-starter with the ability to take on multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
Demonstrated leadership ability to drive projects from conceptualization to inception to implementation.
Demonstrable expertise in and knowledge of mHealth, particularly in low and middle-income countries.
Ability to undertake independent problem solving with keen attention to detail.
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment, co-coordinating competing priorities to achieve goals in a timely fashion.
High degree of professionalism, along with excellent, persuasive verbal and written skills required with advanced knowledge of and proficiency in the MS Office Suite.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and handle stress.
