The Department of Health Behavior, in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
We are seeking a faculty colleague with methodological and analytical expertise. Expertise can include multi-level modeling, mixture modeling (LPA, LCA, growth mixture modeling), ecological momentary assessment, E-Health analytical methodology, quasi and experimental evaluation research analytical methodology, principles of measurement, and structural equation modeling. We are interested in a colleague who can facilitate and contribute to the applied research of the current faculty, as well as establish their own research program.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates with an earned doctorate in a program that provided strong training in quantitative data analysis and research methodology (e.g. psychology (especially quantitative psychology), sociology, behavioral sciences with a public health emphasis) are encouraged to apply. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to establish and collaborate in multidisciplinary, funded research programs, as well as a clear track record of scholarly accomplishment. The ability to translate complex quantitative methodology and statistical analysis concepts to new learners is essential, as is an interest in application of advanced statistical and methodological techniques to real-world research questions/problems. Experience working with graduate students is preferable.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific responsibilities will include applying for and carrying out funded research, teaching graduate level courses and advising graduate students, and participating in Department, School and University governance committees.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: Faculty address social and behavioral health determinants and outcomes across a wide variety of health problems (e.g. youth violence and substance use, interpersonal violence, tobacco use, HIV/AIDS, chronic disease, cancer, obesity) in diverse populations, and through diverse settings in the US and internationally. A range of quantitative and qualitative research methods are represented in the work of the department’s faculty. Training programs lead to MPH and PhD degrees and prepare students for careers in public health research, teaching, administration, and practice. Across all these areas the department is committed to research and practice that advances social justice and especially seeks candidates who will add to the diversity of its faculty.
